Trend of the Month: Yellow

I feel like every single time I participate in Marion’s trend of the month link up I say that I didn’t think I had anything in my closet that would work, and then I do.  But it’s true.  That’s really how it happens.  Which is why it is fun to do these things: you discover items in your closet you forgot about, didn’t realize were now trendy, or didn’t think to pair it that way.012

This month Marion’s trend is yellow and I don’t have many yellow pieces.  I actually think I am wearing every single one of my yellow items in these photos.  It’s just not a color that I think looks best on me so I try to limit my yellow buying to things that won’t be close to my face.  Like these shoes.  They are my absolute favorite shoes.  They brighten up any outfit.008

And this belt.  This was my very first colored belt purchase inspired by J’s Everyday Fashion.  009

And this cardi I have had for years and years and years and I remember being nervous when I bought it.  How would I wear it?  What does yellow go with?  I wear it constantly.011

Do you recognize this dress?Ribbet collage

I wore it in my Week 1 30×30 Challenge.

I’m also linking up with Bri for Third Thursday Trend: Workclothes.  Dresses are my favorite thing to wear to work because they are so easy and comfortable! I’ve already worn this dress twice and I just got it a few weeks ago.  Think my coworkers are sick of it?

How do you wear yellow?  Ever find something in your closet you didn’t realize was trendy?

Lace

One of the things I love about exploring the blog world is finding inspiration from real ladies.  It’s one of the things I love the most about J’s Everyday Fashion— she shows how she recreates outfits using what she has in her closet from affordable stores.

And it’s one of the things I love about fashion challenges and I’d like to participate in more in public.  Previously I would “participate” without posting about it, but look out world!  I’m going to post them.

This month’s Trend of the Month from Marionberry Style is lace!  I wasn’t going to participate at first because I don’t have anything lace even though I love it.  I have had plenty of lacy tops in the past, but no more.  They either didn’t fit anymore, got dingy, or were ruined (Mom!).  I was ready to pass by this one, although regrettably, when I remembed that HEY! I need to challenge myself to participate in lace without having lace.  Say what?

So I stared in my closet for a while and came up with my version of a lacy outfit.

It might not exactly be a lace top, but it works, right? (I have no idea why my face is so red…)

It gives the feel of lace without actually being lace.  And in my opinion, it is close enough!

Cardigan: Target, teal, old.
Top: Loft, white and grey, bought on sale, old.
Skirt: Loft, black, old.
Jewelry: Necklace, Stella & Dot, Geneve Lace Pendant, $98.

And just like the last time I participated in an MB style challenge, I wanted to find accessories that would satisfy the trend.  Accessories are a cheaper way of being trendy!

Lace is definitely a trend in the jewelry world.
Necklace: (wearing in outfit) Stella & Dot, Geneve Lace Pendant, $98.
Earrings: Stella & Dot, Geneve Linear, $59.
Earrings: Gift, QVC, similar: Target, $7.99!!!

What are your favorite lace pieces?  How do you incorporate trends without spending a fortune?

Trend of the Month Challenge

Hi friends!  I’ve gone through a little poopoo patch and haven’t been motivated to put together cute outfits so I thought I’d participate in Marion Berry’s Trend of the Month Challenge.  And this month… animal prints!

Okay, I’m not a big animal print wearer, or lover even.  I admire those who wear it and wear it well but I think there is a fine line between this

and this

I just can’t help but think of Fran Drescher as The Nanny when I think of animal print.

Obviously not everyone takes it to the level that that character did, but there is definitely a line that is easy to cross.

Since I am so scared of animal print, the only thing I own that is animal print is a cheetah scarf.  I happen to get a lot of compliments on that scarf so I’m rather proud of it.  (as I write this I realize there is a shirt in my closet that might count as animal print but a very subtle one).

With that said, here is my animal print challenge result.  Be kind!

I worked with what I had in my closet, and have had in my closet for many years, and put this together in less than a day.  I was also working with the ever changing weather in Pennsylvania right now.  48 degrees when you leave for the morning and 73 in the midafternoon.  I also have to layer carefully for my job and make sure that all pieces are appropriate to wear as the layering comes off.

Sweater: Ann Taylor Loft bought on sale many years ago.  Similar
Dress: Target bought many years ago.  Similar
Boots: Target bought a few years ago.  Similar
Earrings: Odette Hoops, $39
Ring: Stackable Deco Rings, $49
Scarf: bought at a flea market for $5! Similar

What would you have done differently?  How do you like to layer for fall?

I had fun with this challenge!  I can’t wait for next month’s!!
